2. Type of Chord:

  • diatonic or chromatic,
  • triadic or non-triadic,
  • major, minor, diminished or augmented
  • with or without added 7ths, 9ths, 11ths or 13ths
  • with or without essential 3rds or 5ths.
  • passing chord
  • auxiliary chord
  • appoggiatura chord
  • explicit or implicit

3. Chord Presentation or Context:

  • chord inversion,
  • duration of a chord,
  • position of a chord in the bar,
  • use of pedal notes
  • resulting from linear progressions

4. Contrapuntal Factors:

  • implied harmonies when only 2 or three voices are present
  • complex contrapuntal inter-plays.

5. Special formations, such as

  • repeating or alternating patterns
  • patterns based on linear movements in one or more voices
